Two new Canon Superzooms including first CMOS PowerShot

Canon brings HD moviemaking and 4.0fps shooting
to its PowerShot super zoom series

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, September 17, 2008: Supercharged today Canon PowerShot digital compact camera range with two powerful new models: the 10-megapixel PowerShot SX1 IS IS and PowerShot SX10,
which together replace the PowerShot S5 IS.

Both raise the benchmark for compact with a
20x zoom outstanding wide angle (28mm), optical zoom, with USM and VCM for a quick, silent, the zoom. The PowerShot SX1 ES offers a revolutionary set of features
never before seen in a compact camera from Canon - a 10-megapixel Canon CMOS sensor, 4.0 frames per second continuous shooting, Full HD and the movie capture - while both the use Canon's new DIGIC processor 4 for fast performance and richly detailed, clear images on a wide range of shooting situations.

Unbeatable reach
With a Canon 20x wide-angle (28mm), optical zoom, the PowerShot SX1 IS and PowerShot SX10 is coping with everything from long-range telephoto shots to sweep the landscape. Canon Ultrasonic Motor (USM) is combined with the voice coil motor (VCM) technology for near silent operation and speed for sports or wildlife themes. And thanks to Canon for optical image stabilizer - which now offers a 4-stop advantage - the movement of the camera Blur is avoided even with the zoom fully
extended.

Power of 10 megapixels
The PowerShot SX1 IS and PowerShot SX10 is characteristic of 10 megapixels of resolution, capturing all the details necessary for the poster-size prints or crop in the post of creative transformation. A CMOS sensor allows SX1 the Canon PowerShot IS to shoot high resolution JPEG at a speed of up to 4.0 fps - what a powerful, pocket-sized tool ideal for capturing fast action sequences.

High Definition moviemaking
For the ultimate in visual quality, the PowerShot IS SX1 offers 1080p (30fps) video High Definition - ready for instant playback on any HDTV via a built-in HDMI connection. The PowerShot SX10 offers fun, spontaneous VGA movie shooting. Movies in both houses are higher quality CD with stereo sound, optical zoom and face detection technology, and more if needed to get there, the Canon PowerShot SX1
includes the Advanced Tele-Converter for an extra 2x zoom without loss quality of the film.

DIGIC 4: intelligent processing for better photos
The PowerShot SX1 IS and PowerShot SX10 is characteristic of the new Canon DIGIC image processor 4. As well as ensure the ultra-fast and excellent performance, low-noise imaging, intelligent DIGIC 4 units of various technologies that make great pictures easier than ever.

Pictures of people benefit from the improvements in facial detection technology, which detects even faces placed at an angle of the camera, or in the profile. Select the track side and tracks a specific topic, with even greater precision, while a new FaceSelf-timer function - that automatically triggers the shutter shortly after a new face enters the frame - makes group shots and self -
portraits easy.

Canon improved the technology of motion detection offers fantastic, Sharp results for the camera and recording the movement of material, then automatically adapts ISO to avoid blurring the image. Blur is more guarded against by the new servo AF, which continually adjusts focus on moving forward toward themes or outside the chamber.

DIGIC 4 also powers the new Canon i-contrast feature, which shows large, natural detail in dark areas of images - without blowing the lighter areas.

Total Control
For the final creative precision, the PowerShot SX1 IS and PowerShot
SX10 offers full manual control over both aperture and shutter speed. A control dial provides access to multiple fingertip all settings. In addition, compatibility with a range of accessories - including professional Canon EX Speedlite flash units - creative potential extends further.

Also included with the Canon PowerShot IS SX1 is the WC-DC300 controller, which allows wireless control of shooting and playback. This is ideal for tripod shooting at slow shutter speeds, or any situation where keeping a distance from the camera is preferable.

"Both cameras offer exceptional image possibilities," said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe. "In particular, the PowerShot SX1 is really redefines what a compact digital camera can do. This kind of power and versatility to be experienced to be believed."

Explanation of technologies:

DIGIC 4
Canon DIGIC 4 (Digital Imaging Core) image processor manages all of the primary chamber of responsibilities for optimizing operational efficiency. Advanced image processing algorithms to deliver excellent image detail and color reproduction with accurate white balance. High-speed processing of the results pending response, rapid auto focus and extended continuous shooting ability. DIGIC 4 also powers advanced noise reduction technology, i-Contrast and Face Detection AF / AE / FE / WB.
Face Detection AF / AE / FE / WB, Face Select and Track and FaceSelf-timer
Canon's face detection AF / AE / FE / WB system automatically detects up to 35 faces within a frame before adjusting the focus, exposure, white balance and flash to ensure optimal results. It is able to determine which faces are intended to be, immediately becoming the association of 9-point AiAF system if no face is the main theme. Select the track side and allows the user to select a particular face to be the main subject of a photograph and track, for the best possible results. FaceSelf-timer allows easy group shots by the automatic activation of the valve shortly after a new face has entered the picture.

i-Contrast
Available in either shooting or playback mode, the Canon i-contrast light of the analysis of the exposure, dynamic range and other characteristics of the image of a shot, and then increases the adaptive gain in dark areas -- to produce greater detail in darker regions without blowing correctly exposed parts of the image. The role of noise reduction of DIGIC 4 guarantees a minimum of noise in tight areas.

iSAPS
iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) automatically optimizes the camera settings key before each shot.
Each scene is analyzed and cross-referenced against Photographic Space - a vast library of camera data. This allows the camera to make optimal adjustments to auto exposure, auto focus and auto white balance before image capture occurs.

Optical image stabilizer
The PowerShot SX1 IS and PowerShot SX10 is to use a lens shift-type image stabilizer (IS) system to detect and correct slight camera shake that can cause the image of Blur. The SE offers a 4-stop advantage to improve performance in low light conditions, when shooting in the extreme telephoto lens, and when the vibrations were more severe. It also offers increased sensitivity to low-frequency vibrations, such as the rocking of a ship. Gyroscopes to detect minute vibrations of camera movement caused by hand shake.

These signals - in 8000 per second, twice the speed of conventional IS signals - are processed by a single controller chip is, which discriminates between hand shake and intentional camera movements. Shake signals are sent to the company of the unit, which moves one of the lens elements accordingly to re-align the light rays and cancel the effects of vibration.

To improve accuracy and responsiveness, the moving lens element is supported in the areas of small ceramics. In addition to minimize friction, ceramic spheres avoid some of the problems that can affect metal systems, such as thermal expansion and magnetismo.Explicación of technologies:
